  • #1 Reason Why People Lose Their Facebook Accounts

Did you know that the number one reason people lose access to their Facebook accounts is social engineering?

A common scam starts with a message from a friend on Facebook claiming to have phone issues or needing help to verify their Facebook account. They ask you to share a code that will be sent to your phone.

⚠️ Warning: This is a social engineering attack. The hacker uses the code to log into your account, change your password, and lock you out, even if you have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled.

Tip: Never share verification codes with anyone, even if they appear to be a trusted friend. Always verify suspicious requests directly with the person through a different method of contact.

  • Hacked email account? Check your forwarding rules!

If your email account has been hacked, one of the first things to do is check for unauthorized forwarding rules. Hackers often set these up to secretly receive your emails.

Our video guide walks you through the steps to check and remove forwarding rules on Gmail and Outlook.

  • Are you still using the same password?

Protect Your Online Accounts with a Password Manager

One of the most common ways people get hacked is by reusing passwords across multiple accounts. This practice leaves you vulnerable to cyberattacks, but there’s a simple solution: use a password manager.

In this video, we’ll demonstrate how to set up and use three reliable options:

    • Microsoft Authenticator: Navigate to the Passwords tab at the bottom menu to get started.
    • Apple Passwords: Available on iPhones with iOS 18 or later, this built-in feature helps you securely store credentials.
    • Google Password Manager: Open the Google app or Chrome, tap your profile picture, and select Passwords for quick access.

Finally, we’ll show you how to use these tools to generate strong passwords automatically while signing up for new services or updating existing ones.

Start using a password manager to simplify your online experience and protect your personal information from hackers.

  • Is your email or phone number visible on Facebook?

Protect your privacy on Facebook! 🚫📧📱

Publicly displaying your email or phone number can be used by cybercriminals to target you with social engineering schemes or to enumerate login credentials for your accounts. Update your settings to make this information visible to ‘Only Me’ 🔒

    2. Click on Privacy Centre
    3. Review Settings

  • Never do this when traveling!

Don’t borrow charging cables or plug your devices into random USB ports at hotels, airports, or cafes. Hackers can use these to install malware or steal your data in a tactic called Juice Jacking.

✅ Always carry your own charging cable and wall adapter.
✅ Use a portable power bank for added safety.

  • Never use SMS as Your 2FA Method

Don’t use your phone number as a Two-Factor Authenticator.

SMS-based 2FA can be bypassed with various methods, making it insecure.

    Key Vulnerabilities:

    1. SS7 Attacks: Where hackers with access to the Global Telecom Protocol can use IMSI numbers to intercept SMS messages.
    2. SIM Swapping: Attackers trick your mobile carrier into transferring your number to a new SIM card.
    3. Phishing and Social Engineering: Hackers can manipulate you into sharing verification codes sent via SMS. This is one of the main reasons why people get hacked.

Two better alternatives are using an app like Google Authenticator with a Cloud Backup, or by using a hardware token like YubiKey.
